It occupies 11.5 acres along a ridge in Mashobra, Shimla, at about 7,000 ft above sea level, set inside 950 hectares of deodar forest, with the Gharshi Valley opening out below. The brand calls the idea “Life Beyond the Edge”, and builds it on three words: experience, discover, become.

Everything on this site follows from five decisions taken before the first drawing: what the place should do to the people living in it, how it should stand on the mountain, who should run it, what should be left untouched, and how ownership should feel between visits.

At roughly 7,000 ft the body adapts within days: red blood cell production rises, oxygen moves more efficiently and resting heart rate steadies. Shot at locationThe site sits within 950 hectares of deodar forest and looks across the Gharshi Valley. Mashobra averages an AQI of 18 to 30, carries nine perennial streams and holds a population density of about 200 people per sq km. Reserve forests where development is prohibited, the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act and stringent hill-planning rules keep it that way.

A hill site is an engineering problem before it is an architectural one. The ground has to hold, water has to be routed away from it, and the slope has to stay where it is for generations. HoABL developed the engineering strategy for The Ridge in collaboration with IIT Roorkee, treating geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and structural systems as one integrated ecosystem rather than three separate scopes.
Four decisions carry most of the weight.
Architectural renditionEvery structure is anchored using micropile foundations that extend deep into the mountain's competent rock strata — the strongest and most stable layer beneath the surface. Rarely deployed in Indian residential construction, the approach delivers exceptional stability while working with, rather than against, the terrain.
Long before construction began, the entire masterplan was analysed using advanced computational modelling. By studying the site's contours, slope, geology and solar orientation, every home, road and open space was positioned with precision.
Developed in collaboration with IIT Roorkee, the engineering strategy brought research-led analysis and infrastructure-grade rigour to every structural decision. Geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and structural systems were conceived as one integrated ecosystem.
From slope stabilisation and retaining structures to subsurface water management, every engineering solution was developed specifically for Himalayan conditions — for resilience, permanence and quiet confidence for generations.
“Life Beyond the Edge”
Six principles govern the homes themselves. They deal with daylight, air, warmth and materials — the things that decide how a mountain house feels on day four hundred rather than on the day you first see it.

Homes are oriented to maximise natural daylight while embracing the region's naturally dark night skies — supporting healthy circadian rhythms, better sleep quality and a more balanced daily cycle.
Thoughtful orientation, generous openings and natural cross ventilation encourage continuous fresh mountain air throughout the home, improving indoor environmental quality and reducing reliance on mechanical cooling.
A high-performance thermal envelope — insulated walls, roof assemblies and advanced glazing — maintains comfortable indoor temperatures across every season while reducing heating and cooling loads.
Rich wooden flooring, natural stone and premium Himalayan-inspired materials were selected for durability, tactile warmth and timeless character.
A restrained contemporary architectural language, rooted in Himalayan architecture and shaped by the mountain's silhouette, creates homes that are climate-responsive and timeless.
Detailed villa layouts are not published. They are shared on request, and final plans are issued at booking.
Life expectancy in India is around 71 years. Healthy life expectancy — the years in which health, energy and independence hold — is around 60. That gap of roughly eleven years is the problem longevity-led design sets out to narrow, and it is the argument this project is built on. Longevity here means extending the healthspan, not the lifespan.
Altitude does part of the work on its own. Red blood cell production increases within days, oxygen moves more efficiently and resting heart rate steadies. Every incline turns walking into cardiovascular training. Time among the deodars lowers cortisol and sharpens focus.

Yes. Mashobra is about 30 minutes by road from Shimla, roughly an hour from Chandigarh by scheduled heli-taxi and about two hours from Delhi by heli-taxi, so visits do not need to be rationed.
